It's positively amazing how observable the effects of blood are. You can tell when Josh's hemoglobin and red cells are low. There's just not enough to carry the oxygen through the blood stream and the energy levels just plummet. He just looks drained and going up and down stairs (to scavenge for food, of course) is a huge effort.
So, yesterday's transfusion will provide a boost. It was obvious even as the evening progressed that he was feeling better. We take so much for granted. Talk about 'iron poor blood.' I hope his counts start to recover, probably by next week they should be starting to inch up. The last couple of times, post-chemo, recovery has been a little slower. Understandable when you look at all we've put the poor kid's body through.
